Designing for the Community
Every transportation and infrastructure project impacts the existing environment, built or natural, in which it is located. Civiltech’s Environmental and Design Studies department analyzes potential design solutions and the impacts they create. Our goal is to develop alternatives that avoid or minimize negative impacts on the surrounding environment. During Phase I of a project’s development, the analysis of these impacts drives our decision making process.
This complex decision-making and approval process must be navigated to satisfy environmental laws and meet jurisdictional agency requirements. Effective communication with the public and decision-makers is oftentimes the most critical element to the success of a project.
Biesterfield Road at I-290 / IL Route 53 Interchange Feasibility Study
Village of Elk Grove Village
Civiltech provided alternative studies to widen Biesterfield Road, add additional turn lanes, and improve the ramp configuration within this important interchange which provides the only access to I-290/IL Route 53 in the Village. Two critical aspects included avoiding impacts to Forest Preserve District of Cook County property and providing improved access to Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
