On Wednesday, January 4, Civiltech staff were in attendance at the media event announcing the Bridge Investment Program funding that was awarded to the City of Chicago to be utilized for the Illinois International Port Calumet River Bridges. The award will be used towards the rehabilitation of four bridges over the Calumet River.  The City received $144 million for this project which was one of only four awards given for the Large Bridge Program (over $100 million).

Civiltech, as part of the C*NECT team, along with Cambridge Systematics proudly assisted the City with the grant application.  The Civiltech/C*NECT team was involved in writing and submitting the grant application with information from the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), along with supportive data analysis and research. Cambridge Systematics completed the benefit-cost analysis.

The Bridge Investment Program is part of the 2023 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law established by the Biden-Harris Administration. The rehabilitation of the bridges aids regional and national connectivity and enhances local access and economic vitality.

Vice President Kamala Harris announced the award at the event which was held next to the 95th Street Bridge. Many local dignitaries attended and spoke, including Lori Lightfoot, Mayor of Chicago; Toni Preckwinkle, Cook County Board of Commissioners President; Dick Durbin, United States Senator; and Jerome Prince, Mayor of Gary.
