In August 2024, Civiltech welcomed Barry Stuedemann, P.E., SPWS, to lead our newly formed Nature-based Solutions department, focusing on natural and nature-based feature (NNBF) planning and design. Civiltech’s NbS practice utilizes the expertise of our engineers, planners, landscape architects, ecologists, and managers to create sustainable solutions for our clients’ specific needs. We offer comprehensive services for existing and new sites from concept planning through post-construction management.

Barry has been working in the consulting field since 1990 and has combined his extensive civil engineering and natural resource experience in Civiltech’s NbS practice. Barry has experience with large and small projects for public and private stakeholders nationwide. He is attentive to his clients, has strong communication skills, and is interactive and collaborative; he has deep technical knowledge, rigorous policy training, and experience for regulatory foresight.

The Mississippi River has been a significant influence on Barry, from growing up on its northern riverbanks to spending years in its delta, working to protect and restore it from the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. He appreciates the Mississippi’s natural beauty and respects its might. For more than 30 years, Barry has been developing his understanding of nature’s amazing tools, and today he has a broad perspective on how to approach his natural and built environment designs. With an NNBF focus, Barry implements NbS into: civil site design; transportation design; wetland sciences and habitat restoration; stormwater management and permitting; green infrastructure; stream and shoreline resilience; and biotechnologies, such as constructed treatment wetlands.
