Civiltech congratulates Jerry Chen, our Senior Digital Rendering Artist, on receiving the Award of Excellence by the American Society of Architectural Illustration. The award was part of the organization’s annual awards ceremony and seminar. The 2024 event, Architecture in Perspective 38,” was held October 31st and November 1st at Texas A&M University.

Jerry entered three renderings he had prepared for Civiltech’s North DuSable Lake Shore Drive Study. He shared that it was exciting to have Civiltech and the renderings of this exciting project recognized in this competition alongside architectural visualization companies and 3D artists from across the country.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the event included a daylong seminar featuring a variety of lectures and a half-day sketch tour. The seminar focused on how visualization through artistic renderings, data graphics, storytelling, and animation communicates and enhances design ideas.

The seminar included a discussion on the impact of AI on the rendering and design process. Jerry shared that he believes AI can be a positive tool when combined with other 3D media tools, and he looks forward to it as an exciting future trend.

After the seminar, Jerry took the opportunity to visit Dallas. His trip included the 360-degree panoramic views from the Geo-Deck at the top of Reunion Tower. From this view, he captured images of the city’s complex transportation infrastructure and modern bridges.
