A Vital Connection between Communities
Rodenburg Road provides a vital connection across the Metra railroad tracks between the Villages of Schaumburg and Roselle. The pavement was in poor condition, and the Village of Roselle had experienced occasional overtopping of the roadway during large storm events. Civiltech prepared a PDR addendum and provided Phase II Design Engineering services to reconstruct this roadway.
Pavement Reconstruction and Impacted Wetlands
As part of the project, the pavement was reconstructed and the elevation of the low point south of the Metra tracks was raised approximately four feet. The additional embankment width impacted the adjacent wetlands, requiring permits from the US Army Corps of Engineering, DuPage County (within Roselle) and MWRD (within Schaumburg).
Streetlighting
The existing street lighting at the Irving Park Road intersection was extended to the south within the Village of Schaumburg. Because of the proximity to the runway at the Schaumburg Municipal airport, close coordination with the FAA was required to gain approval for the use of short light poles along the roadway.
Coordination with Other Projects
Construction of residential and commercial properties adjacent to Rodenburg Road within both Villages was underway during the project. Close coordination was required to ensure that the design of the roadway was compatible with the proposed access points. This also required the preparation of a PDR Addendum to obtain IDOT approval of a new turn lane into the development north of the Metra tracks.
