CDOT Program Manager Consultant – Complete Streets Projects

Providing Complete Streets Improvements Throughout the City

The City and CDOT have incorporated and prioritized Complete Streets design policies into its programs for several years, and this is reflected in the work that C*NECT performs. A Complete Streets design approach strives to balance all users of the roadway, including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and drivers.

Dedicated Complete Streets Programs

The Civiltech and C*NECT teams are highly involved in CDOT’s dedicated programs such as Complete Streets, Pedestrian Safety, Traffic Calming, Bicycle Program, Streets for Cycling, Safe Routes to School, and Vision Zero. Core maintenance programs such as arterial resurfacing are seen as an opportunity to deliver pedestrian safety features, bike infrastructure, and transit improvements to residents.

Civiltech and C*NECT

The Chicago Neighborhood Engineering and Construction Team (C*NECT) provides 70+ full time personnel from a dozen companies to manage all phases of engineering services for the City of Chicago’s locally funded public-way maintenance and improvement programs. The C*NECT program provides engineering support throughout the full lifecycle of thousands of projects annually, from project programming to close out.

Complete Streets Design Elements

Civiltech staff, through C*NECT and on standalone projects, designs over 50 miles of Complete Streets improvements for CDOT annually. Specific design elements include road diets, bike lanes, buffered bike lanes, two-way cycle tracks, pedestrian refuge islands, raised crosswalks, curb extensions, detached bump outs, paint-and-post bump outs, bus infrastructure such as priority lanes and queue jump signals, and more.
