This has been a truly remarkable year for Civiltech, and the excitement in our offices is palpable. Not only are we continuing to grow our team, but our company is evolving beyond traditional Transportation Engineering into a robust multi-disciplined firm offering expanded services that add depth to our capabilities and provide unmatched opportunities with which to support our clients. We are also expanding our reach not only through client connections but geographically as well!
ISPE 2024 Best Place to Work
Throughout this year of growth, our company culture continues to thrive. Civiltech is thrilled to be named the ISPE 2024 Best Place to Work in the Large Firm Category. This is a back-to-back accolade for Civiltech having won the triennial award previously in 2021. With gratitude to our clients and staff for making all of this possible, we look forward to an exciting 2025.
Celebrating 36 Years!
Our team was excited to celebrate all these changes along with our 36th anniversary on October 12. We recognized the anniversary with our annual Walk and Talk. Staff walked 2 miles as a team and raised over $2500, which is being donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies. The walk ended with an after-party at the Church Street Brewing Company’s HopGarten, also located in the Business Park.
Enhancing and Growing Structural Design
In September, Civiltech welcomed Tom Janicke, P.E., S.E., as Director of Structural Design Services. He brings a breadth of experience in highway structure projects across all phases of Transportation Engineering. Within the industry, he has served on the executive boards for the Illinois Section – American Society of Civil Engineers (IS-ASCE) and Structural Engineering Institute (SEI) Illinois Chapter for many years and maintained involvement with other organizations such as ACEC-IL, APWA Fox Valley Branch, SEAOI, and NSBA. Civiltech is excited to enhance and grow our Structural Design department. We are focused on expanding our expertise and certifications to include more complex structural projects and to mentoring young structural engineers.
Welcome to Wisconsin!
In October, after much anticipation, Civiltech announced the opening of our new office in the City of Milwaukee, with Amanda Kleinwachter, P.E., named as Director. This is a significant event in the ongoing Civiltech story and aligns with our 36th anniversary and season of growth. Our new office is located in Tower 1 at 330 E. Kilbourn Avenue. This exciting location is in the heart of downtown Milwaukee, located blocks from the river and close to restaurants, arts facilities, and Cathedral Square Park, the site of many popular Milwaukee festivals. With four years of experience working for Milwaukee, our new office provides additional resources for increased services and the opportunity to build on our relationships with our growing list of Wisconsin clients. Our current Wisconsin work has focused on Complete Streets design through bike and pedestrian facility projects and roadway reconstruction. We look forward to expanding beyond our Design Engineering services with Construction Engineering and eventually enhancing our engineering with our Public Engagement, Transportation Planning, and Landscape Architecture services. Our team is also excited to be involved in Wisconsin-based professional organizations.
All-Inclusive Transportation Planning Services
Civiltech’s new Transportation Planning Services department was also launched in October. Lissa Sweeney, AICP, LEED AP, was named Director. Previously, a component within another department, our planning team, services, and portfolio of work now function as a strong, stand-alone department. The Transportation Planning team brings expertise in public engagement, data analysis, economic development, grant writing, and graphic representation. Also, the team’s Complete Streets expertise has expanded from a focus on bike and pedestrian facilities to include all components of the transportation network including transit and freight planning. With this new department, the planning team is able to provide all-inclusive planning services to our clients and regional agencies.
Expanding Quality Management
Bringing even more exciting changes in October, Civiltech’s Dave Kreeger, P.E., was named Director of Quality Management, and we launched our new Quality Management department. Dave brings over 25 years of experience in the design of transportation improvements of all types and sizes. With his expertise and knowledge of the many clients served by Civiltech, along with his extensive local, state, and federal funding experience, Dave will serve our clients exceptionally well in this new role. Civiltech takes great pride in our high-quality work and complete and accurate deliverables. As we continue to grow and add departments, services, and capacity, our quality process is also evolving. To effectively integrate and perform our quality efforts, we have established this new position and department. As Director, Dave will be instrumental in developing new processes and in overseeing and coordinating quality efforts across all departments.
Nature-based Solutions
In August, Civiltech announced the launch of our new Nature-based Solutions (NbS) department under the direction of Barry Stuedemann, P.E., SPWS. Civiltech’s NbS services offer our clients a nature-led, nature-based design approach to their transportation, civil site, and natural resource planning, design, and construction needs. NbS utilizes nature’s tools in planning and design, such as: green stormwater infrastructure, rainwater harvesting, ecological and habitat restoration, enhanced Best Management Practices, wetland conservation and design, stream restoration, native species plantings, parks and waterfronts, construction management, post-construction maintenance and monitoring, and much more. Civiltech has been providing nature-based solutions for years, and we are continuously looking for opportunities to strengthen our environmental responsibility. With our NbS Department, we are putting social and environmental responsibility at the forefront, and we are committed to further integrating our NbS approach into all our services.
