Village of Oak Brook

Oak Brook Shared-Use Path and Bike Route Master Plan

Enhancing Access and Connectivity

Civiltech’s Transportation Planning team assisted the Village of Oak Brook in developing an actionable plan for a robust bike and pedestrian network, beginning with an on-the-ground assessment of path pavement condition Village-wide. The goal was to enhance access and connectivity for people walking, biking, and rolling.

.

Developing Engineering Standards for Bicycle Facilities

Civiltech completed a full assessment of existing bicycle facilities throughout the Village to inventory pavement condition, widths, and document ownership and maintenance. This information along with our robust bicycle facility design experience was used to develop engineering standards for all bicycle facilities for future construction.

Designing a Full Shared-Use Network

The Civiltech team also drafted an enhanced shared-use and bike route network, which proposes a network of corridor, trail, and crossing improvements to improve safety for all users throughout the Village. The approach to develop this plan was based on a review of crash, transportation, and land use data as well as an extensive community engagement process. The path in this area not only connects residents to local destinations but is also part of the regional Salt Creek Trail.

.

The Final Plan

The Master Plan brings all of these pieces together, creating a more robust and connected path network, establishing design standards, and providing implementation and funding recommendations. The Shared-Use Path and Bike Route Master Plan was officially adopted by the Village at the end of May 2025.
