A Road Diet and Bike Lanes
On two boulevards in the City of Milwaukee, Roosevelt from Burleigh to Keefe and Highland from Vliet to 35th, Civiltech provided design services to create a road diet by removing a travel lane and to install parking protected bike lanes. The bike lanes are protected by a row of parked cars, delineators, and pinned on concrete islands at the intersections.
Bus Boarding Islands
Bus boarding islands were also designed on corridors with an MCTS bus route to allow buses to stop in the traffic lane so transit users can board and alight without the need for the bus to pull over, stop, and then merge back into traffic. The boarding islands provide an ADA compliant waiting area for MCTS users, while providing additional protection for the bike lane that goes behind it. As part of the bus boarding island design, Civiltech provided assistance on creating a standard detail for the bus boarding island design to be used on other corridors moving forward.
Protected Cycle Track
On Jefferson from Wells to Erie, a parking protected cycle track was designed on the east side of the street to accommodate two-way bike traffic within the downtown area. The cycle track is protected by pinned on medians and delineators.
